My first taste of the RAW world was the introduction of green smoothie, and thanks to it, my body craved more and more Raw food. And it is still one of my favorite RAW staples. So when I was investigating when I could feed these delicious smoothies to my little Isabelle I found lots of information out there! But for those who dont know what a green smoothie is, it is basically Greens blended with fruit and Water, often eaten for breakfast.
A green smoothie is the best possible thing you can get/give because it is so healthy and is immediately absorbed into the system. Being a liquid makes it easier to digest as well as starting your little one on the life long path towards eating well and getting all those good Greens into your little one!
From the Ten Health Benefits of Green Smoothies here is one example why they are so good for you.. “A molecule of chlorophyll closely resembles a molecule of human blood. According to teachings of Dr. Ann Wigmore, “consuming chlorophyll is like receiving a healthy blood transfusion”. Many people do not consume enough greens, even those who stay on a raw food diet. By drinking two or three cups of green smoothies daily you will consume enough greens for the day to nourish your body, and all of the beneficial nutrients will be well assimilated.
What greens can you use for babies? these greens can be used from 7months onwards…
- Spinach
- Kale
- Spirulina
But it is best to alternate the greens with each smoothie as spinach can be to hard on little babies tummies if you give them too often. We waited till Isabelle was 7 months before we introduced these greens, and we only gave a little bit at each time.
I am now just introducing Green Smoothies to her in a cup with a straw so she can get used to drinking them – shes is only taking in a little bit at the moment – I dont mind as I’m a firm believer that Breast Milk is still her best food!
