There are two types of foods: acidic and alkalizing foods. Most rawfoods and especially greens are alkaline forming in the body. Foods like sugar, meat, alcohol, cheese, and chocolate are very acidic. Acidity encourages decomposition, decay, disease and energy loss. The human body creates both acidity and alkalinity, but the standard Australian diet overloads our system with too much acidity. It is ok to have some acid foods in your diet a good percentage is 80% alkaline to 20% acid.

Alkaline foods support balance in the body. Green leafy vegetables, sprouts, and fresh fruits are all alkalizing. Our bodies need to be in an alkaline state to be healthy and blood cells need to remain at a constant pH of 7.3 (alkaline) to remain alive. What does all this mean? Well to encourage health in our children we need to be feeding them whole food, raw food and organic alkalizing foods. Disease can not thrive in an alkaline body – which is why people reverse disease on a raw food diet.

How do you know your body is in a alkaline state?

You can either test you ph levels through either your saliva or your urine, using a simple ph Test kit.

It is good practice to either test 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating.

For testing urine, let some urine flow before testing as this will give more of an average reading. I often test on my second pee for the day!

It is also a good idea to test 2-3 times in a day in order to get an average, as first thing in the morning the body has retained fluids over a long period of time and it will engage in different processes to remove acid wastes from the body throughout the day – so by testing throughout the day you get a better indication of your ph levlels.

Below is a chart I have put together to show Acidic and Alkaline foods.
